Title: The End of Her; Author: Shari Lapena; Published: 21 July 2020; Publisher: Penguin; Genres: Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, Psychological thriller, psychological fiction; Page Count: 340
This was my first book by Shari Lapena. I’ve seen amazing reviews about her previous book “The Couple Next Door” but never got the chance to read it. So when I saw this I was super excited to start reading it. Firstly, I enjoyed Lapena’s writing style. The story alternates between multiple points of views and there’s no way you can be confused.
The characters are very distinct and different. But some of them were a bit meh and I’d wished I’d known more about them.
The plot was really interesting and engaging. However, at some point, I felt like certain parts were a bit repetitive. Like the suspense part if the story was being forced to us. With that, I think the book could have been shorter.
The plot twist towards the end of the book was well executed, absolutely loved how things panned out. I just wish we got a bit of context before the major twist took place.
I enjoyed the psychological aspect of the book. It’s something we’ve seen happen in real life, which makes the book relatable.
One thing I realised whilst reading this book is that I don’t really enjoy a plot that involves cops/detective. That part just hinders my enjoyment a lot.
Overall, it was a good psychological thriller and I’d highly recommend it.
It starts with a shocking accusation…
Stephanie and Patrick are recently married, with new-born twins. While Stephanie struggles with the disorienting effects of sleep deprivation, there’s one thing she knows for certain – she has everything she ever wanted. Then a woman from his past arrives and makes a shocking accusation about his first wife. He always claimed her death was an accident – but she says it was murder. He insists he’s innocent, that this is nothing but a blackmail attempt. But is Patrick telling the truth? Or has Stephanie made a terrible mistake? How will it end?
