How I Fit Reading Into My Everyday Life

April 14, 2019

Happy Sunday, 14 April 2019

I’ve been getting these comments or questions on my social media whereby people make assumptions that all I do is read, which is not the case at all, thus in today’s post I wanted to clarify that and share how I fit reading in my life. Someone asked me if I watch TV or I just read all the time which was so funny. I do watch TV, movies and binge watch series a lot (on that note, I am super excited for Game of Thrones and I’ll probably binge watch season seven today lol).

I don’t think I read a lot compared to other people I know. I think it actually depends on my schedule but in a month I usually read between 2-5 books. If it’s more than that it means it was a good reading month for me, which is rare lol. I am not a fast reader at all, if you had that in mind just push it out because it takes me a while to finish a book.

Anyways let’s get to it.

During the week, it’s difficult for me to read because I’ve got work and I am usually tired when I finish everything for a day which is usually around 8 PM. So if I am not tired, I try to read maybe for 30 minutes before I go to sleep, which only happens maybe 2 times a week.

With that said, I wake up pretty early and I try to dedicate 30-40 minutes to reading (not every day) and now we are approaching winter, so waking up is a challenge because it’s so cold.

Other than that, I try to get most of my reading during the weekend. Not that every weekend I don’t have things to do, but it’s easier for me to fit in 3 hours of reading over the weekend than during the week.

Audiobooks have been helping me a lot, I started last month because I have an hour a day of walking and I use that to listen to an audiobook. With that, I can finish one book a week using this method.

I try to challenge myself once a month to read more. I see a lot of people hosting 24 hour readathons on Instagram, not that I participate and go to the extremes of not sleeping because I need my sleep. I just dedicate one day where I read more than I usually do.

That is it, I don’t have any hidden secrets lol. With this strategy I get to do other things that are of interest to me i.e. photography (you can check out some of the images here). I think the most important thing is to know your schedule and find what works for you.

If you have questions, please do leave them in the comments section. I’d also like to know your routine for reading maybe.

Until next time, let’s keep reading.

  1. I think up to 5 books a month is very impressive.
