How To Manage Your Work-Life Balance When you have other interests

September 20, 2018

Happy Thursday, super excited for the long weekend.

It is always challenging to find balance in life. We all have things we would like to do besides our work life. I usually get people asking me how I manage to read so many books (they are not that many according to me lol). They might assume that I spend 24/7 reading which is just a myth as I have other interests and I’m sure every other bookworm can agree to that.

Anyways today I decided to talk more about balance (not to say I am an expect or what) and how we can manage our time.

Finding time for yourself

This ties in perfectly with a post I made a few weeks ago about self-care which you can check here. It is difficult to find time to do other things after work if you are tired and stressed. Thus I recommend that you dedicate time to rest and this might be a bit challenging as you take in more projects. But at the end of the day it is important to allow our bodies to rest so that we can put in our best the next day.

Learn to switch off from work completely

Once you learn how to take time for yourself , the next step is to learn to switch off especially when you are with family. So if you are dedicating one day to be with your family, be with them. This is a good way to help you relax and might help with coming up with new ideas.

Understand that times are different

If maybe you have a business and you get busier towards the end of the year, this might be a different case than during the year. All I’m trying to say is that times are different and we need to understand that and adapt accordingly.

Find what works for you

We are all different and its important to know our strengths and weaknesses. We know the best times for us to work, thus its important to find what works for you. What works for someone might not necessarily work for you, so find that and stick to it.  If you can manage to work until midnight; do that. If you can only wake up earlier and work; do that. Because if you force something that is not for you, you wont see any results/success.

Find yourself and find what works for you.

“A good method of juggling different tasks is to always balance the short and long term tasks.” Gretchen Pilar

That is it for today, hope you learned something. I’d like to know how you find balance in your work life as well as your other interests.

Until next time,

    Hi Sthem
Thank you for this, well I usually have difficulties switching and after 2 solid years I have decided to switch from work, when I get home and focus solely on my other interests. Believe e its not easy but I’m trying after all this is my first week. I’m hoping to adapt in 2 weeks atleast🙈

Great post. I freelance, which means there is no HR to put in for leave and I work at different hours of the day, depending on the projects I’m busy with. So not that easy to find the balance.
But one thing I do is to not over-book. Meaning sometimes I say no to work that comes my way because if I say yes to everything, I’ll never take a break. Still working on it though!

Thank you, at least you’re able to manage your own time and truly understand as to why it might be difficult. Yeah true, if you are over-committed it would be difficult to take a break. I still need to learn that, because I find that I have so many things I’d like to do.
