Children of blood and bone; Is it worth the hype?
Today we are reviewing a book that has taken the internet by storm for the past few months since it was released. I usually wait the hype out before reading a book, which is what I did for this one. Hypes can be intimidating at times for me I guess lol.
Title: Children of Blood and Bone || Author: Tomi Adeyemi || Publisher: Pan Macmillan || Published: 6 March 2018 || Genre: Fantasy || Pages: 531
Zélie Adebola remembers when the soil of Orïsha hummed with magic. Burners ignited flames, Tiders beckoned waves, and Zélie’s Reaper mother summoned forth souls.
But everything changed the night magic disappeared. Under the orders of a ruthless king, maji were killed, leaving Zélie without a mother and her people without hope.
Now Zélie has one chance to bring back magic and strike against the monarchy. With the help of a rogue princess, Zélie must outwit and outrun the crown prince, who is hell-bent on eradicating magic for good.
Danger lurks in Orïsha, where snow leoponaires prowl and vengeful spirits wait in the waters. Yet the greatest danger may be Zélie herself as she struggles to control her powers and her growing feelings for an enemy.
This book is just amazing, I love the writing style. Even though it a 500 page book which might be intimidating a times but this is fast paced and the font is not small at all.
I enjoyed the way the author painted a picture of the world at the beginning before you start reading and the drawings were just perfect.
The world building in this story is just perfect, I loved it so much it shows that the author took her time creating this world.
It is so easy to relate to the characters even the supporting characters. The characters are so strong and I enjoyed the fact that the main characters are young female characters. Relationships (friendship and family) are just amazing in this book even the romantic ones are not annoying at, which usually happens in books. The characters are really supporting of each other and they fight for what they want or aim to achieve.
I think the author did very well with the plot twist which allowed the book to be action packed.
At the end of the second last chapter of the book, the author reveals the name of the second book in the series, which was just amazing. I loved the way she did that and I don’t usually see it in books, it was just perfect.
Overall, I enjoyed the book so much an cannot wait for the second book.
Is it worth the hype? Yes, Definitely.
“They killed my mother. They took our magic. They tried to bury us. Now we rise.”
Those were my thoughts and I’d like to know yours if you’ve read this book and I’m super excited for the second book of the series (to be released next year).
