I received this book last year from a book subscription box and its been on my shelves for the past few months. I’ve been intrigued about it but I guess it wasn’t the right time for me to pick it up. But finally, I picked it up this week and boy did I regret not picking it up earlier, but I guess it was for the best lool.
Lets get to the review.
Title: The Loneliest Girl in the Universe || Author: Lauren James || Published: 7 September 2017 || Genres: Fiction, Romance novel, Science Fiction, Young adult fiction || Pages: 290
The story follows the main protagonist, Romy Silvers, a 16 year old girl who was born in space and is the only survivor of a spaceship travelling to a new planet, on a mission to establish a second home for humanity amongst the stars. She’s the loneliest girl in the universe and the only communication she has is with someone from NASA and this communication is via email. She learns that a new ship has been launched from earth and that makes her happy as she won’t be alone anymore once the new ship catches up with her ship.
The boy named J (the commander from the new ship) contacts her via email. Due to the distance between them, these messages takes months to transmit across space. Yet, Romy feels like she knows J as a friend and she cant wait to see him. They open up to each other and Romy finds herself falling in love.
The question is, Does Romy really know much about J? Can she trust him?
I really enjoyed the writing style of this book as most part of the book are in a form of emails. Emails are the only communication the characters have as they are far away from each other. Its a format I am not familiar with but it was executed perfectly.
The topic itself is just amazing, getting to learn more about science related topics and these topics are simplified in a way that is understandable.
I loved the characters, the author did an amazing job with them, it was easy to relate to them. Yet some of the decisions were just hilarious lol but its understandable as the person making them is in desperate need to be with someone.
The first part of the book was steady and I guess we were introduced properly to the scenario of all the characters. But the twist turned into something else and it was difficult for me to put the book down.
Can we take a moment to admire the cover, its gorgeous.
Overall, it was a great read and I’d recommend it. Its a fast paced read, which only took me a few days to finish.
“Its hard to focus on the future when the past is so distracting.”
“Time doesn’t really make any difference to pain”
“Someone outside of a situation is never able to truly judge the best actions to take.”
“The past is much less scary than the future. I know whats already happened; i know how bad it was. I don’t know what’s coming, though.”
Those were my thoughts, I’d like to know your thoughts as well if you’ve read this book or any of the author’s books.
