If you haven’t read Red Queen yet, you probably shouldn’t continue reading this post. Click here for my spoiler free review of Red Queen. Unless, you want to be spoiled, by all means please continue reading LOL.
Now that we’ve cleared that out, let’s get started!!
Glass sword picks up basically where Red Queen left off. We follow the main character Mare, after Maven’s betrayal as she works with the Red Guard to try and find the people who are like her (red blood with silver abilities). These are called new-bloods. She works to find them, keep them safe, and have them join the squad before Maven finds them.
Will Mare find all the new-bloods and save them from Maven?
Firstly, I was captivated by how the book picks up right where Red Queen left off. There is no time gap at all which is rare in most series, which is good because of Victoria’s cliff hangers. This literally means we pick off right in the middle of action.
With regards to characters, new characters were introduced in this book. But I was kind of annoyed and frustrated by some of the characters in this book. Some of their decisions were just annoying at times. Some of the characters I did not expect to see in this sequel, yet they were just popping up out nowhere and causing a lot of trouble.
This book does have slow moments, but still full of action and shocking events you don’t see coming which I really enjoyed. Some of the action scenes were confusing a little for me, yet still good. I love Victoria’s writing style, she writes in action sequences which is fantastic and easy to follow.
The ending literally blew my mind. Let me tell you something about the ending you guys (no spoilers of course LOL). Victoria Aveyard has a perfect way of writing endings, she’s the queen of cliff hangers. I was wondering what would happen at the end of this book, but towards the end they was this scene, where I was gobsmacked and it slowed for a bit. Again another scene, where I was gobsmacked and it slowed again. The last couple of pages, I was like blown away. Basically, they are 3 mind blowing moments before the ending.
Let me stop ranting, before I spoil something. I finished this book 2 weeks back but I really needed time to recover and gather my thoughts.
