Americanah is not entirely about one plot which most novels tend to do, but it addresses a lot of issues. At its heart, it’s about a love story, yet it addresses race, discrimination, feminism, oppression, depression, friendships, and migration. The whole story takes place in 3 different countries.
Americanah is a story about Ifemelu, a young Nigerian woman who discovers race when she emigrates to the United States. Ifemelu is intelligent, stubborn and outspoken. As she is settling into her new life in America she begins to write an eye-opening blog titled “Various Observations of American Blacks by a Non-American Black.”
The story is amazingly written and its easier to understand and follow all the characters. It took me sometimes up to 3 weeks to pick up the book again but I did not get lost in the story which was great lol, it was easier for me to get back to it again. I have to admit that I got bored sometimes during some parts of the story lol. Overall, Americanah is an amazing book indeed; I truly enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it.
